What this checklist covers
The order follows how a tech walks the car, so nothing gets skipped:
Tires & wheels: left front tread, right front tread, left rear tread, right rear tread, tire pressure, spare.
Brakes: front pads, rear pads / shoes, front rotors, rear rotors / drums, brake fluid, parking brake.
Under the hood: engine oil, coolant, battery & terminals, drive belt, hoses, engine air filter, cabin air filter.
An inspection only helps if the customer believes it. Three things make the difference:
Write what you measured, not just a color. “3 mm left on the inner pad” beats “brakes worn”.
Show a photo of anything yellow or red. Customers can't see under their car; a photo does the explaining.
Price the red items right away on the estimate, and keep the yellow ones for the next visit.
That's the idea behind a digital vehicle inspection: the same checklist, done on a phone, with photos sent to the customer in a link.
Questions
What is a multi-point inspection?+
A quick, consistent walk-around of the whole car — tires, brakes, fluids, belts, suspension, lights — done on every visit, not just the system the customer came in for. It catches problems early and gives the customer a clear picture of the car.
How long does a multi-point inspection take?+
Most techs do this checklist in 10 to 20 minutes while the car is already on the lift for other work.
What do Good, Soon and Now mean?+
Good: no action needed. Soon: wearing, plan for it at the next visit or within a few months. Now: a safety issue or failure that should be fixed before the car leaves.
Can I use this as a used car inspection checklist?+
Yes — it covers the mechanical points a pre-purchase inspection should. Add a road test, a scan for stored codes and a check for accident repair on top.
Doing this every day?
Do this inspection on your phone, with photos.
